YALLUNDA FLAT SHOWGROUND

Public BBQ

Tucked away at what appears to be a country showgrounds, this humble camping spot offers an unexpectedly charming retreat for those seeking an authentic bush experience. The $5 per person donation feels almost quaint in today's world, though one suspects the honour system here works better than it would in the city. I pitched up among the towering pine trees - a wise choice, as it turns out, offering both shade and a sense of seclusion from the main cricket oval area. The new toilet block behind the large shed is refreshingly clean, a pleasant surprise that shouldn't be taken for granted at such informal venues. Tank water that actually tastes drinkable is another small victory. The grounds sprawl generously, accommodating both caravans and tents with ease. A modest playground keeps the little ones occupied while parents sort their gear. The friendly locals add that quintessential country hospitality, though fair warning - keep an eye out for redback spiders, particularly during the hotter months.
