WHALE PARK

Public BBQ

Whale Park delivers exactly the sort of delightful surprise that makes Australian family outings memorable. The centrepiece playground, cleverly designed in the shape of a whale, immediately captures children's imaginations while parents appreciate the thoughtful BBQ facilities and covered shelters scattered throughout the grounds. The basketball court adds sporting variety, though one does wonder why the council hasn't carved out a small fenced area for dogs in this otherwise spacious setting. While the playground equipment skews toward older children rather than toddlers, the clean grounds offer plenty of room for ball games and general family chaos. The toilet facilities, however, seem to suffer from the usual municipal neglect - visitors would be wise to pack their own supplies. Despite some maintenance quirks and the occasional unruly local crowd, Whale Park's unique whale theme and solid barbecue setup make it a worthwhile stop for families exploring the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
