TOLOPEA PARK

Public BBQ

Tucked behind a school in Frankston North, Tolopea Park proves that the best discoveries often hide in plain sight. The electric barbecue fired up without fuss - a small miracle in itself - while I surveyed this quietly efficient family setup. The fenced dog park bustled with happy mutts, their owners chatting easily beneath the gazebo's welcome shade. My nieces made a beeline for the playground equipment, though I couldn't help noticing the basketball hoop's tragic lack of net - apparently maintenance budgets don't stretch to everything. Still, the squishy grass invited proper games of cricket, and the whole place had that rare quality of feeling both well-kept and genuinely relaxed. It's the sort of spot where parents can actually sit down with a proper cup of tea while keeping one eye on the kids - no small feat in suburban Melbourne.
