THE RIDGE PARK & PLAYGROUND

Public BBQ

The Ridge Park proves that newer doesn't always mean better designed, though it certainly tries hard enough. This sprawling facility impresses with its expansive paved pathways perfect for scooters and bikes, plus a generous grassed area that's crying out for more shade (the saplings are doing their best, bless them). The playground equipment leans heavily toward older children - those slides will launch little ones into orbit if you're not careful. The barbecue facilities come complete with undercover seating, though you'll want to pack your own cleaning supplies given some visitors' questionable hygiene standards. The glaring omission? Public toilets - a baffling oversight that'll have you planning strategic bathroom breaks. Still, the flying fox and rock climbing features keep kids thoroughly entertained, and a pleasant creek-side stroll leads to Military Pass Playground nearby, better suited for the under-fives. It's frustrating when good intentions meet poor execution, but families still find plenty to enjoy here.
