TENERIFFE PARK

Public BBQ

Perched atop a hill in Newstead, Teneriffe Park offers an unexpectedly wild retreat amid Brisbane's urban sprawl. Stone steps lead visitors to this elevated sanctuary where a large bushland area conceals walking trails that weave past heritage buildings and through patches of rainforest most wouldn't suspect exist behind the old woolstore. The shaded playground off Little Chester Street draws families for barbecues and birthday celebrations, though parents quickly discover the park's one glaring oversight - no toilets, a particularly vexing omission given the younger demographic. The fenced playground provides peace of mind for parents, while dog owners appreciate the off-leash area in the lower park, popular during afternoon walks. Parking proves challenging, as Brisbane parks often do, but the elevated position rewards visitors with pleasant city views. The trails aren't suitable for prams or wheelchairs, adding a sense of adventure to what amounts to a surprisingly decent patch of bush in the heart of Teneriffe.
