TAYLOR BRIDGE RESERVE

Public BBQ

Taylor Bridge Reserve sits quietly beneath the Indooroopilly Bridge, a modest riverside gem that's been through something of a renaissance. The park's crown jewel is undoubtedly its spectacular bridge views – watching kayakers glide beneath the towering structure while trains rumble overhead creates an oddly mesmerising urban symphony. The barbecue facilities appear to have had a chequered past (typical council maintenance, really), though recent rebuilding efforts seem to have sorted things out. The playground is admittedly basic, but the magnificent fig trees provide blessed shade for families seeking respite. What strikes you most is the juxtaposition – this peaceful pocket of green nestled between busy transport corridors. The jacarandas along the riverbank transform the scene into something quite magical when they bloom, though you'll want to pack your own provisions as toilet facilities remain conspicuously absent. Despite the traffic noise, there's something deeply satisfying about an hour spent here watching the Brisbane River flow by.
