STONEY AQUA PARK

Public BBQ

Stones Holiday Park sits along the Wilsons River like a well-kept secret between Sydney and Byron Bay, though the morning chorus of kookaburras ensures you won't sleep past dawn anyway. The aqua park proves irresistible to children and surprisingly entertaining for adults, despite the alarming depth issue at the big jump platform - apparently, hitting bottom is part of the authentic experience. The cabins maintain that comfortable caravan park standard that's neither luxurious nor disappointing, while kangaroos roam the immaculate grounds as if they own the place. Staff possess that enviable down-to-earth quality that makes you feel genuinely welcome rather than merely tolerated. The river setting on three sides creates a tranquil atmosphere, though one suspects the shower facilities weren't designed with aqua park crowds in mind. It's the sort of place where dogs seem as content as their owners, and where closing the aqua golf at 3pm feels like a missed opportunity for perfect afternoon leisure.
