SIR THOMAS MITCHELL RESERVE

Public BBQ

Sir Thomas Mitchell Reserve occupies what was once, rather improbably, a swimming hole where teenagers splashed about in murky water. Today's transformation is nothing short of remarkable - a sprawling recreational space that manages to tick every box on the Australian family outing checklist. The playground equipment gleams with that particular newness that suggests someone finally listened to years of council complaints, while the footy posts stand ready for aspiring goal-kickers to test their accuracy against imaginary crowds. What strikes you first is the generous scale of the place - fields stretch wide enough for proper games of cricket or football, yet the playground sits safely distant from both road noise and wayward balls. The BBQ facilities cluster beneath shaded areas where parents can supervise while attending to more pressing matters of sausage rotation. Children seem particularly drawn to the giant abacus, though whether this represents educational value or simple novelty remains charmingly unclear. The whole enterprise feels reassuringly Australian - practical, unpretentious, and built to last.
