RUNDLE PARK

Public BBQ

Rundle Park presents something of a mixed bag, really. The place boasts lovely mature trees that cast plenty of shade across genuinely green lawns – a welcome sight on a scorching Australian afternoon. It's refreshingly free of unsavoury characters, which parents will appreciate. The barbecue facilities, however, tell a rather different story. During my visit, I discovered the BBQ was adorned with what appeared to be paint (one can only wonder at the artistic vision behind this particular renovation), and more problematically, it steadfastly refused to fire up. The grass, while admirably green, had clearly been given rather too much leeway by the council mowers – approaching something resembling a small meadow. For families with children, the nearby Aquatic Centre playground might prove a more rewarding destination. Still, if you're after a quiet spot under the trees with a book and perhaps a packed lunch, Rundle Park delivers that simple pleasure adequately enough.
