RAILWAY DAM

Public BBQ

Railway Dam presents a curious contradiction – a genuinely lovely area that seems perpetually caught between what it is and what it's trying to become. The undercover barbecue facilities are surprisingly well-maintained, complete with tables and additional bench seating, though the ground beneath is unapologetically dirt rather than grass. The dams themselves are pristine, with clear water where long-necked turtles cruise about in family groups, creating quite the natural spectacle. The toilet situation has progressed from "behind a tree" arrangements to proper facilities after years of community lobbying. The camping areas are reasonably level for overnight stays, and the lighting is excellent for evening barbecues.
