POTTSVILLE ENVIRONMENTAL PARK

Public BBQ

Pottsville Environmental Park once offered well-maintained walking tracks through pristine melaleuca swampland, but budget constraints have taken their toll. Paths have overgrown considerably, with one bridge out for years and multiple tracks either closed or swamped into impassability. The Eucalyptus track remains the most reliable route through the beautiful, virtually weed-free habitat, though wet patches require careful navigation even on dry days. The environmental centre sits dormant, while all amenities have been locked or removed following persistent vandalism. Toilets remain closed indefinitely. Despite the shabby state of infrastructure, the natural environment delivers, koalas frequent the area near the old centre, whilst bats, varied birdlife, and fascinating invertebrate activity reward patient observers. Mosquitoes attack with legendary aggression; aerogard isn't optional. The park attracts few visitors these days, which means those who make the effort find themselves genuinely immersed in nature, graffiti-tagged signs notwithstanding. Not wheelchair accessible.
