PENISTONE PARK

Public BBQ

Penistone Park reveals itself as one of those wonderfully unpretentious Australian parks that simply gets on with the business of being useful. The moment you arrive, you're greeted by the cheerful cacophony of magpies and kookaburras - nature's own welcoming committee, albeit one that occasionally steals your lunch. The park sprawls across two generous ovals, offering enough space for simultaneous cricket matches, AFL training, and the occasional lacrosse enthusiast. The playground, whilst refreshingly straightforward, does its job admirably, while the peculiar clock chimes every quarter-hour as if reminding everyone that time passes whether you're shooting hoops or simply enjoying the shade of those splendid old trees. What strikes you most is the park's democratic spirit - free tennis courts, cricket nets, basketball half-court, and BBQ facilities all available without fuss or booking fees.
