PEAKHURST PARK

Public BBQ

Stumbling upon this sprawling sports complex near Riverwood, I discovered one of Sydney's better-kept secrets for a proper family barbie. The council-maintained electric barbecues here are refreshingly clean and functional,a rarity that had me genuinely surprised. While most visitors flock to the impressive all-weather soccer pitch, I found myself drawn to the well-equipped picnic areas scattered throughout this expansive parkland. The facilities impressed: spotless toilets, children's playground equipment that doesn't look like it survived the Mesozoic era, and enough grassy space to lose a small suburb. The synthetic soccer field dominates the landscape, surrounded by traditional grass pitches that seem to stretch endlessly. Basketball enthusiasts will appreciate the half-court setup, though shade remains frustratingly elusive around the viewing areas. For families seeking a reliable spot for weekend barbecues with proper facilities and space for the kids to burn energy, this venue delivers without the usual municipal disappointments.
