MT COOT-THA RESERVE

Public BBQ

Mt Coot-tha Reserve offers Brisbane families a delightfully deceptive challenge - what begins as a pleasant stroll quickly reveals its true character through steep inclines that separate the weekend warriors from the genuinely determined. The wide, well-maintained tracks wind upward with the kind of relentless gradient that makes you question your breakfast choices, yet reward persistence with excellent birdwatching opportunities. The Powerful Owl Trail, at 2.8 kilometres, proves particularly humbling for overconfident hikers, though the descent requires equal caution as the ascent demands stamina. On beautiful days, expect company - lots of it - as Brisbane's outdoor enthusiasts converge on this popular starting point for summit attempts. The reserve cleverly caters to various fitness levels, offering multiple route options for both lunch-and-return visitors and those tackling the full JC Slaughter Falls to summit journey.
