MOUNT WILBERFORCE LOOKOUT RESERVE

Public BBQ

Mount Wilberforce Lookout Reserve proves that sometimes the journey matters more than the destination. The hiking trails offer a pleasant enough ramble with mates, though you'd be forgiven for expecting actual lookout views, the towering eucalypts seem to have missed the memo about being a "lookout" spot. What the reserve lacks in vistas, it compensates with practical amenities: exceptionally clean toilets (with soap, no less,a minor miracle), ample parking, and a decent playground that'll keep the kids occupied while you contemplate whether those trees will ever trim themselves. The shady picnic spots provide welcome respite, though parents should note the unfenced slope near the playground adds an unnecessary element of adventure. It's the sort of place that serves its purpose admirably, even if that purpose isn't quite what the name suggests.
