MERRIWA PARK

Public BBQ

A delightful Wangaratta park that caters to all ages and abilities, an easy flat walk from the station past the cathedral. The steps down are steep but have a handrail, and there is step-free access from the side for anyone who needs it. Inside there is a securely fenced playground with modern equipment, flat wooded walks, open areas for ball games, ample bench seating and hot showers, with a cycle hub at the top of the steps that also houses toilets. Birdlife is abundant. A riverside walk with a cafe makes a pleasant route back to the station, and the town's cafes, volunteer-run museum and galleries are close. The adjoining Kaluna Park is a natural island bounded by the King River, holding magnificent old river red gums and now-rare remnant vegetation, reached by a bridge from the end of Thomas Street.
