MELALEUCA LAKES AND PARKLANDS

Public BBQ

This tranquil haven offers an unexpectedly rich wildlife experience just minutes from suburban life. The twin lakes serve as headquarters for a resident pair of black swans, whilst ducks and ibises patrol the shallows with characteristic Australian confidence. Most delightfully, two water dragons - one large, one small - have claimed the viewing deck as their personal sunbaking territory, appearing with such regularity that visitors can practically set their watches by them. The occasional pelican drops by for good measure. Well-maintained walking and cycling tracks wind around the water's edge, leading to a proper viewing platform that frames the lakes beautifully. Families appreciate the playground and barbecue facilities, whilst the peaceful atmosphere makes it equally suited to solitary morning strolls or leisurely picnic lunches.
