MCGAVIN VIEW PARK

Public BBQ

A quiet, somewhat hidden park overlooking the dam near Whiteside, with panoramic views across most of the water to mountains beyond and genuinely spectacular sunsets. Free undercover barbecues, heaps of seating and gazebos spread well apart give each group its own space, and there is a big playground, a viewing platform, some local history boards and room for a frisbee or a kick of the footy. Three things to know before packing the car: there is no water supply at all, so bring your own; the barbecue plates are unreliable, with as few as two of six working at times; and despite sitting right beside the dam, there is nowhere to swim. The toilets divide opinion sharply and have been found locked. Parking fills when it is busy.
