MARYBOROUGH SHOWGROUNDS

Public BBQ

The Maryborough Showgrounds offers a surprisingly civilised stop for travellers along the highway, though one does wonder why the cleaning staff seem to operate on geological timescales. The spacious grounds accommodate everything from compact campervans to the most ambitious big rigs, with powered sites scattered across well-maintained grass areas, though arriving early helps avoid the notorious red mud patches that seem determined to redecorate your tyres. The amenities block provides clean showers and toilets, even if the housekeeping standards fluctuate somewhat mysteriously between visits. What sets this place apart is its genuine community atmosphere, particularly when vintage car enthusiasts descend for swap meets, transforming the grounds into an automotive treasure hunt. The facilities cater beautifully to large groups, with ample space for everyone to establish their temporary kingdoms without stepping on neighbours' guy ropes. At twenty-five dollars for a powered site, it represents excellent value, especially considering the convenience to town and the surprisingly peaceful nights despite highway proximity.
