MACROSSAN PARK

Public BBQ

This expansive riverside camping area sits between road and railway bridges overlooking the Burdekin River, offering one of the region's more popular free camping experiences. The concrete picnic tables and single large undercover area provide practical gathering spots, though the facilities show their age with dated toilets that struggle with cleanliness standards. Cold showers and basic amenities serve the steady stream of travellers who typically stay one or two nights. The graded access road, dotted with potholes, becomes treacherous after rain when mud transforms the approach into a challenge. Peacocks wander the grounds alongside kangaroos, adding unexpected wildlife encounters to the riverside setting.
