LONGREACH MEMORIAL POOL

Public BBQ

Stepping into Longreach Memorial Pool feels like discovering an oasis in the outback's embrace. The crown jewel here is undoubtedly the heated indoor pool - maintained at a toasty 30 degrees that had me wondering if I'd accidentally stumbled into a warm bath rather than a swimming facility. It's enclosed and covered, making year-round swimming a genuine possibility even when the Queensland sun decides to take a particularly aggressive stance. The outdoor 50-metre pool offers a refreshing contrast, though I'd recommend bringing a water bottle if you're planning serious lap work - the warmth can sneak up on you. There's also a children's pool that seems purpose-built for keeping the little ones entertained while parents contemplate whether they have the energy for another length. The facilities are impressively clean, with showers that actually work properly - a pleasant surprise in regional Australia. Yes, there's an entry fee, but it's modest enough that you won't feel robbed. For a town like Longreach, this pool punches well above its weight.
