Public BBQ

The campground beside Lake Catani in Mount Buffalo National Park, and a well-run one: flushing toilets and hot showers cleaned daily, fire pits, bins, and walking access to the lake for a swim. It is unstaffed, and popular enough that booking is essential - months ahead for the better sites. Water on site is untreated, so bring your own for drinking and cooking. Only two electric barbecues serve the whole campground, which is thin when a school group is in. Sites sit close together with little privacy, some are large gravel that suit a van better than a tent, and the numbers are hard to pick out on arrival. Depending where you land it can be a fair walk to the swim spots and the amenities, and the lights go off there late at night. Check the lake level before committing: at 40 per cent it is not much to look at. There is no reception, so sort a fishing licence beforehand.

Generally No! The BBQs are first come, first serve. However, if you plan on having a larger event then please check with Alpine council.

Aussie public BBQs are simple to use. Majority of sites listed on this website are gas or electric BBQs. Simply press the button and it will turn on for a set amount of time (10-20 minutes).

You should first check with Alpine council about the rules and restrictions.

Generally, it is permissible to utilize your own gas BBQ, provided it remains under continuous supervision. However, the usage of Charcoal BBQ's is typically restricted, with the exception of parks equipped with designated charcoal disposal bins.
