KYNETON BOTANIC GARDENS

Public BBQ

A large, historic botanic garden on the edge of Kyneton with the Campaspe River running along its lower boundary. Majestic old trees give it its character - jelly palm, deodar cedar, giant redwood and bunya pine among them, with a strong showing of Chinese plants and seasonal floral displays. Autumn is when it is at its best. Several looping walking paths join the Campaspe River Walk below, taking in the Mollison Street Bridge, the weir and a couple of boardwalks, with information boards on the area's history along the way. The playground is huge and suits all ages, with table tennis tables alongside and a water play area in December. There are undercover barbecues, tables and chairs, drinking taps and public toilets, plus an outdoor exercise section. The toilets are tired inside, and the bins are often overflowing.
