KARAGULLEN OVAL

Public BBQ

A country oval used for junior and senior cricket and tee ball, with surrounding bush providing good shade and a car park that doubles as a handy starting point for walkers heading onto the bush tracks. It is a quiet spot for a dog walk — you will rarely meet another dog, which suits owners whose dogs prefer it that way — and kangaroos come down out of the forest to graze in the evenings. The Hills Festival is held here. Opinion on the playing surface is divided: it is well regarded as a cricket ground, but the grass grows in uneven tufts and is not a surface to run or exercise on without risking an ankle. More bins and some permanent shelter would help through summer.
