JACKIE HOWE PARK

Public BBQ

Jackie Howe Park sits just off the Cunningham Highway as you roll into Warwick, one of those pleasant surprises that makes you grateful for whoever decided parks should exist. Named after the legendary shearer who somehow managed 321 sheep in eight hours back in 1892 - a feat that makes modern fitness challenges look positively leisurely - this tidy spot offers exactly what road-weary families need. The park boasts three shelters of varying ambition: one generous enough for proper gatherings with twin picnic tables, and two smaller affairs that suggest more intimate dining experiences. The playground keeps children sufficiently occupied while parents contemplate the seemingly impossible mathematics of Jackie Howe's shearing record. Clean toilets with disabled access prove that even in 1892's honour, modern conveniences matter. There's something wonderfully Australian about a rest stop that combines industrial history with helicopter playground equipment. Perfect for stretching legs, wearing off children's energy, and pondering how anyone could shear that many sheep without modern equipment.
