IRVINE RESERVE

Public BBQ

Irvine Reserve in Elderslie presents a bit of a mixed bag for families seeking a decent barbecue spot. The highlight here is undoubtedly the well-designed playground, complete with proper fencing that keeps toddlers aged 1-6 safely contained – a godsend for parents who fancy actually finishing their snag in peace. The accessible slides are thoughtfully designed, and the covered eating area provides welcome shade with a double barbecue setup that's clearly seen some proper use. The setting itself is pleasantly quiet, offering that relaxed country vibe you'd expect from a suburban reserve. However, and this is a rather significant however, the complete absence of toilets anywhere on site is frankly baffling. What were the planners thinking? The single table and bench arrangement also feels rather stingy for what could be a popular family destination. While the basics are there, Irvine Reserve feels like a project that was three-quarters finished and then abandoned – promising bones, but crying out for some proper facilities.
