HOBART RIVULET PARK

Public BBQ

Hobart Rivulet Park proves that sometimes the best wildlife encounters happen practically in your backyard. This delightful riverside walk along Anglesea Street offers something wonderfully Australian: the genuine possibility of spotting a platypus just minutes from Hobart's city centre. The gravelled path meanders alongside the rivulet with the sort of easy charm that makes you forget you're essentially in suburbia. Morning and evening visits yield the best platypus-spotting opportunities, though as one optimistic visitor discovered, even a Monday morning at 9am can produce results when "Plattie" decides to work from home. The walk connects beautifully with Cascade Brewery, making it possible to combine wildlife watching with a proper beverage,a combination that strikes me as quintessentially Tasmanian. Families clearly appreciate the easy terrain, and there's something rather magical about a place where children can spot one of Australia's most peculiar creatures during an afternoon stroll.
