HIGHETT RESERVE

Public BBQ

Highett Reserve sits quietly in Melbourne's suburbs, the sort of place that does exactly what it says on the tin without much fanfare. The barbecue facilities anchor a modest but functional setup alongside picnic tables, though one gets the distinct impression the facilities have seen better decades. The playground keeps the children occupied well enough, while the dog park ensures everyone's four-legged family members aren't left sulking in the car. What genuinely impresses is the cricket oval with its practice nets - proper facilities that suggest someone actually thought about what locals might want to do on a weekend. The public toilets are present and correct, which in suburban Melbourne counts as a minor victory.
