HENDRIE STREET RESERVE

Public BBQ

Hendrie Street Reserve strikes you immediately as a park that's figured out the family formula, though not without its growing pains. The sprawling playground sits beautifully shaded beneath established trees, completely enclosed by child-safe fencing that lets parents actually relax for once. The centerpiece is an impressively tall slide that draws the adventurous types, while smaller slides cater to the tentative toddlers still mastering stairs. What sets this place apart is the ingenious bike circuit winding around the playground - a miniature Tour de France for scooter-wielding five-year-olds. There's even an Archimedes pump that'll delight any engineering-minded parent watching their child discover water physics through play. The BBQ facilities are perfectly adequate, though you'll want to arrive early if you're hoping to snag one of the coveted sheltered areas - this place draws crowds for good reason. The toilets, while equipped with proper baby-change facilities, could use more frequent attention. Still, with ample parking shared with the adjacent swim centre and enough variety to entertain multiple age groups simultaneously, Hendrie Street Reserve delivers exactly what families need: a full day's entertainment without leaving the premises.
