HEATHDALE GO WETLANDS

Public BBQ

A well-maintained wetlands reserve in Werribee, and one of the better parklands in the area. Walking trails loop around the lake past several viewing points, and they are flat and easy enough to suit older walkers. Birdlife is the main attraction — head through the gate and you can watch the birds that have made the water home. Several picnic areas are dotted about along with sheltered barbecue facilities, and there are two small playgrounds plus outdoor exercise equipment. Toilets are available and kept clean. Cricket and football pitches sit adjacent, with the Aquapulse centre and Pacific Plaza shops close by. Dogs are welcome on lead. Two caveats: it looks dry after a spell without rain, and the inner path down to the pond is difficult with a wheelchair.
