HALLORANS HILL CONSERVATION PARK

Public BBQ

Tucked away on a hill in Atherton, Hallorans Hill Conservation Park is one of those delightful surprises that doesn't announce itself with fanfare. The magic begins with the views – sweeping vistas across the local countryside that make you wonder why more people don't know about this gem. The playground impressed me immediately: fully shaded and cleverly designed to challenge everyone from toddlers to bigger kids, while parents can actually relax knowing their offspring are entertained. What struck me most was discovering one of the last remaining Mabi rainforests in Northern Queensland. The 1.5-kilometre return walk downhill is pleasantly shaded and follows a babbling creek – perfect for cooling off after rain when you can sit by the running water. The rainforest itself seems to sing, creating an almost mystical atmosphere that feels worlds away from everyday life. The barbecue facilities surprised me with power points – a thoughtful touch that's rarer than it should be. There's plenty of seating, clean toilets at the top of the hill, and a council building available for events.
