GREY GUMS PARK

Public BBQ

Tucked away in Kelvin Grove, this little park punches well above its weight for family entertainment. The playground is clearly the star attraction here - kids go absolutely mad for the pretend café and bakery setup, plus there's all the usual suspects like slides and tunnels that keep the under-fives happily occupied for ages. What struck me most was how thoughtfully designed the dramatic play areas are; whoever planned this place actually understands what gets children excited. The park's compact size works in its favour - you can keep an eye on everything without doing laps around a massive space. The practical side is fairly no-frills: a couple of electric barbecues and some shaded picnic tables make it decent for small family gatherings, and they've recently added a drinking water fountain. Fair warning though - there's absolutely no parking and no toilets, which makes sense given it's designed for locals who can walk over. Woolworths Kelvin Grove is just down the road if you need supplies. Perfect spot for an intimate barbie with toddlers in tow, just don't expect the bells and whistles of a major park.
