Public BBQ

A well-known picnic ground in the Dandenongs, the starting point for the Lyrebird Walk loop and one of the better places in the ranges to see birds. Sulphur-crested cockatoos, crimson rosellas, king parrots and galahs are all about on a warm day, and anyone quiet and patient has a real chance of a lyrebird, which you usually hear first. There are barbecue facilities, water, pathways and good educational signage. It is reachable by public transport, with a bus from Belgrave station to Kallista and a short walk. Wear shoes you do not mind muddying for the Lyrebird Walk. The cockatoos have been fed to the point of fearlessness and will land on people, which is a genuine nuisance and worth keeping small children clear of.

Generally No! The BBQs are first come, first serve. However, if you plan on having a larger event then please check with Yarra Ranges council.

Aussie public BBQs are simple to use. Majority of sites listed on this website are gas or electric BBQs. Simply press the button and it will turn on for a set amount of time (10-20 minutes).

You should first check with Yarra Ranges council about the rules and restrictions.

Generally, it is permissible to utilize your own gas BBQ, provided it remains under continuous supervision. However, the usage of Charcoal BBQ's is typically restricted, with the exception of parks equipped with designated charcoal disposal bins.
