GAWLER VIEW

Public BBQ

Gawler View in Para Wirra National Park delivers an unexpectedly delightful escape just an hour from Adelaide. The picnic area strikes that perfect balance between facilities and natural bushland, complete with clean toilets, well-maintained barbecue spots, and enough tables to accommodate families without feeling crowded. The real stars, however, are the resident emus who patrol the grounds with shameless confidence, approaching visitors with the casual expectation of shared lunch. Kids gravitate immediately to the nature playground and flying fox, while the 1km lake circuit provides an easy introduction to the park's walking tracks. More ambitious hikers can tackle the Lizard Rock trail or push on to Knob Lookout, though the signage could use improvement. The kangaroos tend to keep their distance, bounding past like polite neighbours, but the emus have clearly claimed this territory as their own dining establishment.
