DOWNEY PARK

Public BBQ

Downey Park in Herston serves as a major sporting hub, hosting hockey, netball, softball, soccer, and basketball events throughout the year. The park offers open spaces, a playground with climbing trees, public toilets, and sits directly on the Ennoggera Creek Bikeway, making it popular for family bike rides. One of Brisbane's better dog parks operates next door. The layout works well for casual walks with a relaxed atmosphere that doesn't feel overcrowded. Parking remains the biggest issue, particularly during large sporting carnivals when council parking enforcement becomes aggressive. The bike path connection runs flat and pleasant, linking through to Northey Street Farm with fitness stations along the way. Facilities include bubblers and toilets, with plenty of room for kids to kick balls around between organized sports.
