DIAMOND HEAD BEACH

Public BBQ

A beach on the Camden Haven coast where mountains, rainforest and sand meet, with a national park campground right behind it. The tidal pools at the southern end are the highlight and good for snorkelling on a calm day, though a decent swell makes the water messy. Camping is cheap and popular enough that booking is essential; sites sit close to the water but are packed tightly together, which is the main complaint. There are clean, accessible amenities with cold showers, and a dump point. Four-wheel drive beach access is permitted with a council permit. Kangaroos graze around the camp. The Diamond Head Loop walk is superb, and the longer route through from Kylie's Beach better still. No dogs, and a park pass is required.
