CURRIE HARBOUR

Public BBQ

Currie Harbour presents an unexpectedly charming tableau of Tasmanian coastal life, where working harbour meets recreational retreat. The views across the water prove genuinely arresting, particularly from the small pier where crayfish boats deliver their daily catch. A modest sand strip provides respite for families, though parents might find themselves wishing for more substantial playground equipment to occupy restless children. The free barbecue facilities transform this spot into something special, locals wielding King Island steaks with the confidence of seasoned practitioners. During my visit, enterprising souls had supplemented their grilling with leftover pizza from the nearby brewery, creating an impromptu feast that epitomised the island's relaxed approach to dining. The lighthouse stands sentinel over proceedings whilst a takeaway cart provides refreshments for those less inclined to self-cater. Festival season brings music and revelry, though even on ordinary days, the harbour maintains an infectious tranquillity. The locals' genuine warmth proves as memorable as the coastal scenery, sunscreen essential, pretension optional.
