CUMBERLAND STATE FOREST

Public BBQ

Cumberland State Forest proves nature reserves can be refreshingly unpretentious. This bushland pocket offers unexpectedly civilised escape with walking trails threading through towering natives and graceful Cabbage Tree Palms. The sensory trail provides rustic adventure for youngsters without requiring wilderness survival skills. Beautifully maintained barbecue areas show pride in upkeep, while on-site cafe and nursery add creature comforts. Dogs are welcome on leash, making it genuinely family-friendly. Temperature drops noticeably descending into lush, fern-filled gullies where streams burble and birdlife provides soundtrack. At roughly 20 minutes from either entrance to treetops, it's perfectly sized for families with toddlers or grandparents seeking gentle adventure.
