COOLOOLABIN DAM

Public BBQ

Cooloolabin Dam presents something of a contradiction - a place where nature's beauty persists despite some unfortunate neglect. The dam itself offers genuinely lovely views across the water, and the 14-kilometre walking trail around its perimeter showcases beautiful gum trees and staghorns that make the four-hour journey worthwhile. The spillway provides an impressive vantage point, and mountain bikers will find decent trails along the water's edge. While the day-use area shows its age with broken playground equipment and scattered building supplies slowly being reclaimed by vegetation, the basic facilities - toilets, picnic tables, and a few swings - remain functional. It's the sort of place that rewards those who come for the natural setting rather than polished amenities. The parking is adequate, and despite its modest size and no-dogs policy, it offers a genuinely peaceful retreat for couples or anyone seeking solitude amidst Queensland's bushland.
