CHUNG HOM KOK PARK

Public BBQ

Perched on the dramatic coastline of Chung Hom Kok, this compact barbecue site occupies what was once a military artillery position,a rather fitting transformation from weapons to weekend warriors armed with tongs and marinades. The location delivers an unbeatable panoramic sea view that compensates for its modest scale, hosting just five BBQ stations that feel rather precious given the popularity of the spot. The park's greatest asset is also its Achilles' heel: those sweeping coastal vistas draw crowds even on weekdays, turning what should be a peaceful seaside cookout into something resembling a very scenic car park. Speaking of which, roadside parking accommodates perhaps five vehicles, making arrival timing rather crucial. The absence of toilets and nearby water sources adds a certain pioneer spirit to proceedings, pack accordingly. While rock climbing students occasionally add entertainment during weekdays, the crashing waves provide the usual soundtrack to this beautifully isolated pocket of Hong Kong's coastline.
