CENTENNIAL PARK

Public BBQ

Centennial Park proved to be one of those delightfully unexpected discoveries that transforms a simple stopover into a proper mini-holiday. What initially drew me here was the 72-hour free camping facility,a godsend when every other caravan park was booked solid. The council has done something rather remarkable here, creating a spacious RV area that accommodates everything from massive caravans to compact camping setups. The park itself extends well beyond mere camping convenience. A proper Vietnam War Memorial anchors one end, whilst children's laughter echoes from the well-equipped playground at the other. The walking trails meander through the grounds, perfect for morning constitutional or evening dog walks. BBQ facilities and picnic tables are scattered throughout, all maintained to a standard that suggests genuine civic pride. The real stroke of genius is the mobile coffee van that appears most mornings, serving proper coffee and toasties, absolute salvation on those bone-chilling 1°C mornings. The toilets remain spotlessly clean and accessible around the clock, a detail that any seasoned traveller appreciates immensely. What strikes you most is the atmosphere: busy enough to feel secure, yet respectful enough that everyone maintains that pleasant camping etiquette of friendly waves without intrusion.
