BROOKLYN OVAL

Public BBQ

A large old-style cricket ground beside the Hawkesbury at Brooklyn, with a small pavilion that offers shelter when the weather turns. Several barbecues sit among picnic tables, and there is a playground and a skate park alongside. A bubbler and public toilets are on site, though the toilets are ageing and leaves tend to blow in. An elevated walkway runs along the river front and a one-kilometre boardwalk links through towards Kangaroo Point, with the Brooklyn pub a short stroll away. Parking is plentiful. Shade is limited and the ground is not fully fenced, so it suits older children better than toddlers. The oval is not always closely maintained, and green head flies and wasps can be a nuisance when the grass is long.
