BRIGATTI GARDENS

Public BBQ

Tucked away on Wright Street in Highgate, Brigatti Gardens proves that Perth's best barbecue spots often come in the most unassuming packages. This compact urban oasis delivers exactly what families need without any unnecessary fanfare - though I do wish someone would mention that the footpaths have more character bumps than a country road. The towering London Plane trees and magnificent Moreton Bay figs create a natural cathedral of shade that transforms even Perth's most scorching afternoons into pleasant picnic weather. The barbecue facilities sit sensibly beneath this leafy canopy, while the playground caters cleverly to older children with proper monkey bars alongside equipment for the littlies. What struck me most was the thoughtful separation of activities - dogs have their own dedicated park across the road, leaving families to enjoy their lunch without dodging enthusiastic retrievers. The resident kookaburras provide entertainment between courses, though they're joined by mosquitoes that seem particularly fond of newcomers. The evening lighting extends the park's usability well past sunset, making it one of those rare Perth spots where spontaneous barbecues actually work. Just mind those uneven paths on your way in.
