BOWDEN PARK

Public BBQ

Bowden Park sprawls across Geebung like a sporting enthusiast's fever dream, complete with proper athletics facilities that would make any zone athlete weep with joy. The running track oval beckons serious runners, while families discover a surprisingly civilised barbecue setup alongside decent playground equipment and a cricket pitch with nets. What strikes you immediately is how this place manages to be both a legitimate sporting venue and a brilliant family destination - kids happily potter about the sand pit while serious athletes pound the track metres away. The grassy expanses are vast enough for proper football or enthusiastic kite-flying, though the hilly terrain demands careful footing unless you fancy an undignified tumble. The only genuine complaint - and it's a proper one - is the woeful parking situation. During athletic events, finding a spot becomes an Olympic sport itself, which rather dampens the enthusiasm for what is otherwise a genuinely impressive community facility.
