BIRDSLAND RESERVE

Public BBQ

Nestled in Belgrave Heights, Birdsland Reserve proves that the best barbecue spots aren't always about the smoker – sometimes they're about the setting. This picturesque reserve delivers both flat lakeside strolls and hill climbs that reward visitors with sweeping Melbourne views. The barbecue facilities sit perfectly positioned for wildlife watching, where kookaburras practically queue up for scraps near the picnic areas. Named after the Bird family rather than its feathered residents (though the irony isn't lost), the reserve hosts an impressive avian population – darters, lorikeets, king parrots, and rosellas provide dinner entertainment. The 10-kilometre loop offers varied terrain through bushland and meadows, whilst the creek-fed lake creates peaceful vistas. Parking can be scarce on sunny weekends, and the single toilet facility near the car park means strategic planning for larger groups.
