BIG TREE RESERVE

Public BBQ

A small reserve at Guildford built around a single extraordinary River Red Gum, comfortably over 500 years old, with a spreading canopy that gives the whole clearing a sheltered feel. Interpretive signage sets out the tree's history and how it came to be preserved, including an old photograph for comparison, and it makes for a genuinely humbling stop. The tree lost a couple of large limbs in 2024 and is now roped off for safety, so it can be admired but no longer approached. Picnic tables sit nearby, the adjacent oval has toilets, and the general store a short walk away is well regarded for its pies. There is not a great deal else here, which is rather the point.
