BERRIMA RESERVE

Public BBQ

Berrima Reserve sits quietly beside the river, offering a small camping area with four sites that vary dramatically in size. Site 1 handles larger rigs comfortably, while sites 2 and 4 squeeze smaller setups only. Site 3 works for mid-sized vans around 19 feet, though manoeuvring can be tight. Bookings are essential and cost $18 per night. The river provides easy swimming access, and the area attracts beautiful birdlife. Early morning or late evening visits might reward you with a platypus sighting. The stone quarry walk follows a flat, well-maintained trail with interpretive signs about Germans detained here during WWI. Expect butterflies in January and the occasional lizard along the bushy, brown-water riverbanks. The loop takes about an hour total. Facilities are basic. The toilet block and shower are old and poorly maintained. A portable water tap near the toilets fills tanks. Dogs are allowed. Expect foot traffic from locals heading to the swimming hole, but the spot stays peaceful overall.

Generally, it is permissible to utilize your own gas BBQ, provided it remains under continuous supervision. However, the usage of Charcoal BBQ's is typically restricted, with the exception of parks equipped with designated charcoal disposal bins.
