BARTON ST RESERVE

Public BBQ

Barton St Reserve presents itself as a sensible family destination with its fully fenced perimeter - a genuine relief for parents who've spent too many afternoons chasing toddlers toward busy streets. The public barbecue and toilet facilities tick the essential boxes, while the expansive grassed area provides ample space for energetic children to exhaust themselves properly. The playground equipment, however, tells the story of practical compromise over inspired design. Built for the 3-to-10-year-old brigade, it leaves toddlers somewhat stranded and offers little in the way of shade - a curious oversight in Australian park planning. The exercise equipment appears to have surrendered to time and weather, joining that melancholy category of good intentions gone wrong. Dog owners face their own set of calculations here. On-leash adventures work perfectly well, but the off-leash prospects require careful consideration of other canine visitors. Without proper enclosure, a spooked dog could find itself investigating Barton Street's traffic patterns rather more intimately than anyone would prefer.
