ALLAN TANNOCK WEIR

Public BBQ

Allan Tannock Weir sits about 5 kilometres from Cunnamulla, serving as the town's water supply while doubling as a peaceful recreation spot. The location features wood fire BBQs and picnic tables, making it easy to bring lunch and settle in for a few hours. A sealed 2-kilometre path leads from the caravan park if you're walking in. The weir itself uses man-made piles to hold back the water, creating distinct upper and lower sections. The lower part offers a natural setting where visitors regularly spot white-necked herons, flocks of green and yellow budgies, and kites soaring overhead. Bird photographers find it particularly rewarding, especially around sunset when the light hits just right. Fishing draws people to the boat ramp, with black bream and yellowbelly in the water. Swimming isn't permitted given the water supply purpose. A toilet (pit style) is available on site. The ring road continues past the weir, eventually coming out near the airport if you want to make a loop of it. Water flow picks up noticeably after rain, changing the character of the place entirely.
