ALBERTA PARK

Public BBQ

Alberta Park sits along the waterfront at Wolffdene like a place that can't quite decide what it wants to be when it grows up. The fishing spot shows genuine promise - locals speak fondly of casting a line here, and there's something appealingly unpretentious about a park where anglers feel at home. The barbecue facilities and shelter suggest someone once had grand plans for family gatherings, complete with the essential Australian triumvirate of toilets, benches, and potable water. Yet Alberta Park carries the weary air of a public space that's seen better days. The toilet facilities seem to operate on their own mysterious schedule, frequently locked when you most need them - a frustration that would test even the most patient visitor. The park's remote location means it attracts both genuine day-trippers and less desirable overnight guests, creating an atmosphere that's part peaceful retreat, part cautionary tale about municipal maintenance budgets.
